Bulk Plain Text & Markdown File Merger and Converter

Combine many .txt and .md files into one, put them in the order you want, then export as Markdown, text or HTML.

  • Files stay on your device
  • Reorder in one click
  • Free, no limits

Need one file instead of twenty? This free tool lets you merge Markdown files (.md) and plain text (.txt) files, any number of them, into a single document, in the order you choose, and exports it as Markdown, plain text or HTML. Add each file’s name as a heading, put a rule or a blank line between files, tidy trailing spaces and extra blank lines, then copy the result or download it. It is handy for combining documentation, meeting notes, blog drafts or a folder of notes into one file you can publish or paste into an AI chat. Everything happens in your browser: your files are read on your own device and never uploaded, so private notes stay private.

Your files are read and merged in your browser. They are not uploaded, and nothing is stored.

How to merge Markdown files and text files

    1. Choose your files, or drag them onto the drop area. You can add more at any time.
    2. Put them in order with the arrow buttons, or sort them A–Z or Z–A. Numbers in file names sort naturally, so chapter-2 comes before chapter-10.
    3. Pick the output format, how files are separated and whether each file name becomes a heading.
    4. Check the result on the right, then copy it or download merged-files in the format you chose.

    What each setting does

    SettingWhat it does
Output formatMarkdown keeps your text as written. Plain text removes Markdown symbols from .md files. HTML turns Markdown into web page markup.
File name as headingAdds the file name, without its extension, as a heading before each file so the merged document has clear sections.
Between filesPlaces a horizontal rule, a blank line, a plain line break or your own text between files.
Trim spaces at line endsRemoves invisible spaces and tabs at the end of every line.
Collapse blank linesTurns runs of three or more blank lines into one.
Full HTML pageFor HTML output, wraps the result in a complete page you can open in a browser.

Line endings are converted to a single style, and a byte order mark at the start of a file is removed, so files saved on Windows, Mac and Linux combine cleanly.

    How Markdown is converted

The built-in converter handles the parts of Markdown most files use: headings, paragraphs, bold, italic and strikethrough, inline code, fenced code blocks, links, images, bullet and numbered lists, block quotes and horizontal rules. It does not convert tables, nested lists, task lists or footnotes, and lists are treated as a single level. Raw HTML inside a file is shown as text rather than run, and links with unsafe addresses are left as plain text. If you need full Markdown support for a large site, use a dedicated converter and check the output.

    Common uses

    • Combine chapters or notes into one manuscript or handbook.
    • Join documentation pages into a single README or help file.
    • Gather meeting notes from a folder into one running log.
    • Prepare one text file to paste into an AI assistant. Check the assistant’s own limits on file size and length first.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Files are read by your browser on your device, merged there and never sent to a server. Closing the page clears everything.

How many files and how large can they be?

You can add up to 200 files at a time, up to 10 MB each. Very large merges depend on your device’s memory, so split huge jobs into batches.

Which file types and encodings work?

The tool accepts .txt, .text, .md and .markdown files and reads them as UTF-8, the standard encoding for text. If a file shows garbled characters, re-save it as UTF-8 in your editor and add it again.

Can it merge Word documents or PDFs?

No. It works with plain text and Markdown only. Convert Word or PDF files to text first.

Will the order of the files be kept?

Yes. Files are merged in the order shown in the list, from top to bottom, and you can change that order at any time.

    Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.
